Sony Reader Sale Canada
While updating the new layout to the eBook Reader Comparison page, I noticed that the Sony Pocket and the Sony Touch are both on sale from Sony Style Canada.
The Touch Edition has dropped $50 to $299. The Pocket Edition
is down $40 to $199. This sale ends March 21st.
Also, make sure to use the discount codes for Sony Canada posted here. All in all you could get a PRS-600 for $274.99 with free shipping or a PRS-300 for $184.99 with free shipping.

Apple iPad Release Date Announced
The Apple iPad will be available for pre-order on March 12th in the US, and will be released on April 3rd.
From the press release.
"Beginning a week from today, on March 12, US customers can pre-order both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G models from Apple’s online store (www.apple.com) or reserve a Wi-Fi model to pick up on Saturday, April 3, at an Apple retail store."
Regarding the international release . . .
"iPad will be available in both Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + 3G models in late April in Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK. International pricing will be announced in April. iPad will ship in additional countries later this year."

Nook Available In Canada - Who Knew?
While doing research for the Nook review posted last week, I noticed that the manual said,
"You can only purchase a nook if you have a billing address in the United States, U.S. territories, or Canada."This was the first I'd heard about the Nook being available anywhere outside the US. In fact, if you check the B&N website right now you will find this in the FAQ,
"Q. - I don’t live in the U.S. Can I buy a nook?So I sent an email to Nook support on 2/16 to clarify this matter. Today, 2/24, I received an email back that had this to report,
No. At this time, nook is not for sale outside the U.S."
"Please be advised, we are only offering the Nook for customers in the U.S. and Canada. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused you."
So apparently the Nook is officially available to those living in Canada. Who knew?
You'd think B&N would advertise this fact a little more. Perhaps because the 3G doesn't get coverage there, but Wi-Fi still works. Seems odd not to make it more apparent. At least update the FAQ.

iRex DR-800SG Now Available
The DR-800SG is now available for purchase on the Best Buy website for $399. We'll be posting the review shortly after it arrives.
Additionally, the DR-800S sells for €499 from the iRex website. The S model does not have wireless and does not work with Barnes and Noble's online store.

Apple iPad's iBookstore Crippled by New DRM?
Apple's arrangement with publishers uses a new agency pricing model, which will likely be forced on all other ebook retailers, and will cause ebook prices to jump from $9.99 for new releases to $12.99 - $14.99.
So do the authors of the books get paid more money for these ebooks under this model? Not likely, probably less, in fact. But they are hoping this will cause more people to buy hardcovers instead, and "level the playing field".
Interesting theory.
When's the last time you were willing to shell out $28 for a hardcover book?
And if that's not bad enough, the Apple iPad's ebooks won't be viewable on other devices such as the Nook and Sony Readers, and the iPad won't be compatible with DRM-encrypted ebooks purchased from other content providers, just Apple. Adobe confirms this on their blog.
Whether the iPad will function as a suitable ebook reader is up for debate, but one thing is certain: its affect on ebooks and ereaders will be long-lasting.
